Light blocking shades, blinds and curtains are a great way to make your room feel dark even if the sun has come up. If you have a smart home you can program your blinds to open at a specific time so you wake up by the light entering your room.

Light blocking curtains help to block the noise as well as the light, but if you live in a noisy area (or have a noise partner or pet) consider using ear plugs when you sleep. You’ll wake refreshed because you weren’t tossing and turning all night.

No TV or other electronics – Get the TV and other electronics out of the bedroom. The light emitted from these devices has been shown to disrupt the ability to wind down at night so you can fall asleep. If you need help winding down read a good book, you’ll be asleep in no time.

Get rid of the clutter – A messy room is a stress inducing room. Get rid of the clutter and make your bed each morning. You room will feel comfortably appealing because you aren’t worried about having to clean it when you retire at night.

Blue hues – Soft blues are considered the best choice for bedroom walls. This doesn’t mean you have to paint your room to get a good night’s sleep, but if you’re looking to freshen up the room with paint you might want to consider choosing a soft, light blue palette.
