Winter Wonderland

Relish the magic of the season at SouthPark's own Winter Wonderland, Charlotte's favorite open-air ice-skating rink and ultimate Instagram photo op bucket-list destination. Winter Wonderland's ice skating rink is now 40% bigger and features fun for the entire family including a daily afternoon snowfall, holiday lights and decor, as well as attractions such as Santa's Pub. Join us for special events, guests and activities throughout the season, including our partnership with 103.7 WSOC to bring a Country Christmas to the rink.

Holiday on Ice

Uptown Charlotte’s outdoor ice rink returns to the NASCAR Hall of Fame Plaza. Perfect for a date night, a family ice skating session or an outing with friends, Holiday on Ice has become a beloved tradition in Charlotte. Skaters and non-skaters alike will want to have their pictures taken with our giant polar bear, under our 39-foot-tall tree or in the Ceremonial Garden decorated with thousands of glimmering holiday lights. And don’t miss holiday-themed merchandise from the ice rink souvenir stand and snacks and hot cocoa from the concessions hut.

Carowinds comes alive with holiday spirit during WinterFest. Friends and families are treated to an ultimate holiday celebration as we magically transform our park into a winter wonderland - full of enchantment, cheer and classic family fun. 

WinterFest is packed with all the sights, sounds, food and experiences of the holiday season. The state line shines bright with over 5 million shimmering lights, a 70-foot tree and lavish displays. Live shows and strolling performers delight guests and spread Christmas cheer for all to hear. Festive fun and hands-on holiday activities are located throughout the park, and sweet aromas from special holiday dishes and desserts fill the midways. Plus, up to 24 of your favorite rides will be open to complete your night of memory making.

Speedway Christmas

Speedway Christmas has returned to Charlotte Motor Speedway, and it’s bigger and better than ever!  The ninth edition of Charlotte’s spectacular drive-through light show features more than 3.5 million lights over a remarkable,3.75-mile course that includes most of the oval as well as the infield and the ROVAL™! But you can do more than just look  – listen, too! Tune into 101.3 FM to enjoy Christmas music as you take in illuminated Christmas displays.

The family-friendly Christmas Village – open Thursday-Sunday and all Christmas week, except for Christmas Day – includes an all-new 50ft Ferris wheel in addition to family favorites like Bethlehem village, photos with Santa, fun foods, games, fire pits for s’mores roasting and more.

Charlotte Christmas Village - Christkindlemarkt

Charlotte Christmas Village, is a quaint,  European-inspired Christmas Market in Uptown Charlotte.

 The Village will be open:

  • Thanksgiving 11 am to 5 pm

  • Tuesdays & Wednesdays 11 am to 7 pm

  • Thursdays, Fridays, & Saturdays 11 am to 9 pm 

  • Sundays 11 am to 6 pm 

  • Christmas Eve 11 am to 5 pm

  • Closed Mondays

  • Cider, Glühwein, Wine & Beer sales begin at 11 am

The aromas of specialty foods will drift across the village, from classic Austrian strudels, Bratwurst with Sauerkraut, and glazed nuts. Visitors can also enjoy hot mulled wine, cider, hot chocolate and alcoholic-free Glühwein in a souvenir village mug!

Visit "The Village Bakery" featuring traditional sweets like Lebkuchen (gingerbread), Austrian style strudel, hand twisted pretzels, cookies and other confections!

Holidays at the Garden

When: Now through January 6th, 2019

Where: Danie Stowe Botanical Garden

Holidays at the Garden is bigger and better than ever! You’ll discover new displays, more lights than ever before and fun for the whole family. Experience an all-new musically-orchestrated topiary display, wander through the the new illuminated prairie garden (coming this fall), explore the extended lights of fire and ice in the perennial gardens, view an expanded display of quaint buildings from Department 56’s Dickens’ Village Series® and more.

Visitors will enjoy annual traditions including the towering orchid treelive music (daily 6 to 8 p.m.), holiday shopping in The Garden Store, crackling fires to warm cold hands or roast a marshmallow, the Children’s Discovery Trail of activities, warm beverages, activities and more. Model train displays built by the Metrolina Model Railroaders can be found throughout the Garden.

Christmas at the Library

When: Now through December 22nd, 2018

Where: Billy Graham Library

Christmas is a special time at the Billy Graham Library with plenty of family-friendly attractions to celebrate the birth of Christ.

See a real life representation of the birth of Jesus, including shepherds, a camel, donkey, lambs, and other animals. This free attraction is located between the Library entrance and the Graham Family Homeplace. Please don’t pet or feed the animals during the evening nativity scene.

Experience the ambiance of Christmas at the Library from a horse-drawn carriage. Purchase tickets in the Library parking lot, then get on board for a 15- to 18-minute ride around the BGEA Headquarters and Library grounds. Each carriage comfortably seats four adults.

Bring the little ones to the Billy Graham Library patio for a special time of reading from Christmas books available in the Ruth’s Attic Bookstore. Kids of all ages are welcome, but this free event is especially recommended for those under age 12. The patio is covered and heated so everyone stays warm.

The Nutcracker

When: Now through December 23rd, 2018

Where: Belk Theater at Blumenthal Performing Arts Center

Celebrate the sights and sounds of the holidays at Nutcracker! Join Clara as she encounters an epic battle between the Mouse King and Nutcracker, a breathtaking snowfall, jumping candy canes and the iconic Sugar Plum Fairy. Complete with choreography by Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux and music from the Charlotte Symphony, Nutcracker premiered with all new sets and costumes in 2016 thanks to a generous gift from the McColl family in honor of Jane Spratt McColl. Whether it’s a treasured family tradition or you’re experiencing it for the first time, Nutcracker promises wonderful holiday memories for years to come!
