June is here, let the festivals begin! There are so many wonderful events in Houston this June it will be a task to try to figure out which ones to attend. From the AIA Sandcastle Competition to the Houston Pride Festival there’s all kinds of family fun and adult fun to be had. Hope you get out and enjoy the festivities this month

AIA Sandcastle Competition
When: June 3rd, 2017

The AIA SandCastle Competition is a fund-raising event for AIA Houston and ArCH Foundation as well as one of the top five revenue generating events for the City of Galveston. This year over 60 teams have their eyes and shovels set on winning the prestigious Golden Bucket Award. Firms begin months in advance generating ideas, developing designs, and assigning duties. On the day of the event the teams, stretched along the beach front, meticulously sculpt their piles of sand and work non-stop for five hours.

Caribbean Heritage Month Festival
When: June 3rd, 2017

The 6th Annual Caribbean American Heritage Month Festival, “Made possible in part through the City’s Initiative Grant Program of The Houston Arts Alliance” will be held on Saturday June 3, 2017 at Jones Plaza in downtown Houston, beginning at 2:00pm. We have an outstanding line up of cultural acts to help us celebrate National Caribbean American Heritage Month including live bands, carnival bands, up and coming local artist, surprised guests and much more! The countdown to the festival begins!!

Carnival Houston

Celebrating carnival from the caribbean, Brazil and New Orleans Mardi Gras. It is an exciting an explosion of music, cuisine, revelry, costume parade and performances. The Premier Annual Carnival Houston show will showcase carnival costumes and performances such as Samba, Merengue, and costume masqueraders, Dance Performances, Calypso, Soca, Salsa, and Samba

Juneteenth Fest at Emancipation Park
When: June 17th and 18th, 2017
Where: Emancipation Park

Emancipation Park’s historic Juneteenth Emancipation Celebration marks the anniversary of the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation and over 154 years since the slaves in Texas were informed of their freedom; the celebration in Emancipation Park (currently hosted by Friends of Emancipation Park) includes over 40 years of central Houston Juneteenth Parades!

Pride Houston Festival and Parade
When: June 18th – 25th, 2017
Where: Downtown Houston

For more than 37 years, Pride Houston has been a central part of the local LGBT community in Houston.

It’s core mission is to strengthen equality and increase awareness around issues important to our community such as health, safety and marriage equality. Pride Houston celebrates the individuality and diversity of every person as we all strive for acceptance from parents, friends and society-at-large.

13th Annual Houston Asian American & Pacific Islander Film Festival
When: June 2nd, 3rd, 9th, and 10th, 2017

OCA is a national organization of community advocates dedicated to advancing the social, political, and economic well-being of AAPIs in the United States. Established in 1979, the OCA-Greater Houston Chapter is one of OCA’s 100+ chapters and affiliates and works to provide strong local programs that empower the AAPI community through advocacy, cultural awareness, professional development, economic empowerment, youth leadership training, civic engagement, community service, and education.
