Speakeasy

This musical premiere may be set in 1920s Chicago, but its main character goes by the name of Texas, and it was written and developed by a pair of Houstonians, so you know you’re in for a rip-roaring good time. Texas, the glam doll that owns the speakeasy known as The Reading Room, welcomes you to her underground club, where you’ll meet the various regulars — who definitely have some stories to tell. With great songs by the likes of Cole Porter and George Gershwin and fabulous jazz-dance numbers, Speakeasy takes you back in time for a thoroughly immersive night of entertainment at the Obsidian Theater.

Galveston Island Food and Wine Festival
When: April 11th – 17th, 2016

The Galveston Island Food and Wine Festival has grown to a week long celebration of culinary expertise and award winning vineyards. Guests will clink glasses at decadent paired dinners from acclaimed chefs.

Attend interactive cooking demonstrations, engaging tastings and seminars as well as exclusive parties – all out food and wine revelry overtakes the island April 10-17, 2016.

The Galveston Island Food and Wine Festival returns to the Island with a full slate of new events that will whet your appetite and please your palate!

Brazoria County Crawfish Festival

The Brazoria County Crawfish Festival boils up tons of delicious, spicy crawfish, a world of great food, live music, vendors, games and more in the friendly, relaxed fun and community feel of a small town fair and serves it up big. The area’s best Zydeco bands provide infectious rythms where the Bayou meets the Bay, and The Houston Blues Society will bring in the blues. Enjoy a beanbag tournament, crawfish eating contests, gifts, arts and crafts and more.

Houston Children’s Festival

The McDonald’s Houston Children’s Festival, presented by Baker Hughes, was selected as “one of the world’s 300 unmissable events” by Frommer’s Travel Guides. Celebrating its 28th year in 2016, it is one of Houston’s signature events and has developed into one of the primary fund-raisers for Child Advocates. With a projected annual attendance of over 50,000 people, the festival celebrates over two decades of proven success for sponsors, the community, participants and most importantly, for Child Advocates and the abused and neglected children it serves.

The Festival has consistently provided high-quality educational and fun entertainment in a family friendly atmosphere. Offering several stages, The Festival is divided into themed Family Adventure Zones and delivers over 300 exciting activities. Entertainment over the years has ranged from Bozo the Clown and Ralph the Swimming Pig to Animal Planet super star, Jeff Corwin, to star celebrities from Disney and Nickelodeon’s most popular television shows. With programming carefully aimed at specific age groups and interests, there is adventure and fun for everyone. The Houston Children’s Festival reigns supreme as “Number One for Family Fun!”
