January is a great month in Houston, there are so many fun events taking place, there’s no excuse for not getting out and seeing some wonderful events in Houston. This month you can plant a tree at the Houston Arboretum, see a gun show, a boat show, an auto show and even a home show. If expos aren’t your thing you can laugh at the antics of the Harlem Globe Trotters or for those more cerebral, spend an evening listing to the tales of Garrison Keillor. There’s something for everyone this January in Houston.

Here’s a list of just some of the entertaining events taking place in Houston this month:

The Woodlands Ice Rink in Town Center
When: Fridays through January 18th |3pm – 11pm
Where: Woodlands Town Center
10001 Woodloch Forest, Spring, TX

Come out to the Woodlands and skate in the Ice Rink in Town Center. Skate rental is available for children and adults of all ages. Sessions run every two hours beginning at time of daily opening.

Houston International Boat, Sport & Travel Show
When: January 8 – 18, 2016
Where: NRG Park, 1 Reliant Pkwy, Houston, TX

The 2016 Houston Boat Show will feature more than 1,000 powerboats, luxury cruisers, fishing boats and personal watercraft. So whether your passion includes fighting for the big catch out in the Gulf, jumping waves on your PWC, cruising around the lake at a serene pace or paddling yourself to wherever you want to go, you can find it all here!

The 15th Annual MLK Battle of The Bands Competition
When: January 17th, 2016 | 4-10pm
Where: Rice University
6100 Main, Houston, TX

The 15th Annual MLK Battle Of The Bands Competition is one of the largest High School marching band competitions in the U.S. and features 16 nationally acclaimed High School show bands from across the nation competing in friendly competition.

Las Colinas Home Show
When: January 22nd – 24th, 2016
Where: Irving Convention Center

Arbor Day at Houston Arboretum

You’re invited to celebrate trees at the annual Arbor Day Celebration! This year’s event is packed with nature festivities and all things tree. You can be an ambassador for trees and help End Treelessness by stopping by, taking home a free native tree seedling, making some crafts and participating in some nature themed activities.

Houston Gun Collectors & Antiques Show
When: January 23 – 24, 2016
Where: NRG Park, 1 Reliant Pkwy, Houston, TX

Houston Gun Collectors & Antiques Show at NRG Arena! Public gun show with exhibits, including modern rifles, pistols, shot guns, gun cases, U bags, gun sights, scopes, stocks, finishing materials and parts. Houston Gun Collectors will be in NRG Arena Halls A&B.

Garrison Keillor
When: January 27th, 2016 |8pm – 10:30pm
Where: Jones Hall – 615 Louisiana St, Houston

NPR veteran Garrison Keillor, of A Prairie Home Companion fame, is no holds barred for a rousing event featuring his trademark storytelling and candid, observational comedy — as well as his signature red shoes. The National Radio Hall of Fame inductee, who has been parodied on shows like SNL and The Simpsons, captivates audiences using his unique blend of humor, charisma and wisdom for this one-night only performance at Jones Hall. Note: The orchestra will not appear on this program. This is not a performance of A Prairie Home Companion. Mr. Keillor will not be performing music as part of this presentation.

Houston Auto Show
When: January 27th | noon – 9:30pm
Where: NRG Park, 1 Reliant Pkwy, Houston, TX

The 2016 Houston Auto Show is shifting into high gear with over 700,000 square feet of the latest vehicles from the world’s top automakers. For more than 30 years, the Houston Auto Show has brought the automotive world to Texas, allowing consumers to see, touch, drive and experience the industry’s latest and greatest offerings. The Houston Auto Show has grown to include much more. Now, visitors can explore the Aftermarket Exhibit area, entertain children in the Kid’s Fun Zone and learn what’s new in automobile innovation at the Energy Pavilion.

The Harlem Globetrotters
When: January 30th and 31st, 2016
Where: Where: NRG Park, 1 Reliant Pkwy, Houston, TX

The Harlem Globetrotters are preparing for their most epic tour in history, as the world famous team celebrates its 90th anniversary world tour. A star-studded roster will have fans on the edge of their seats to witness the ball handling wizardry,basketball artistry and one-of-a-kind family entertainment that thrills fans of all ages.
