19th Annual ‘Canstruction’ Houston Design – Build Contest

Houston Canstruction

November 7th through the 15th Houston’s Citycentre will be hosting the 19th annual Canstruction design contest. Canstruction is a unique charity in which large structures made entirely out of cans are showcased, the cans that comprise the structures are then donated to the Houston Food Bank.

In 2014 Canstruction was able to collect over 70,000 cans for the Houston Food Bank and the charity is currently ranked second in the nation for the amount of food raised.

The structures of this contest will be showcased in retail, office, and residential buildings throughout west Houston. Public viewing and voting begins on November 8th and will include walking tours that will allow the public to vote for their favorite ‘cansculpture’. Voting ends on the 14th so be sure to take some time before then to tour the area.

Canstruction Houston’s Mission Statement:

“To produce a unique competition and food drive where Houston area architects, engineers and construction firms and students build creative and ingenious Cansculptures with canned food and other non-perishable food items. All items are then donated to the Houston Food Bank to benefit the less fortunate throughout the greater Houston area.”
